In the past I have canned surplus fruit. But freezing is a much faster preservation method. Here are a few easy steps for freezing fruit.
First off, you want to wash and drain your fruit. Cut off any green parts, (like strawberry tops) and cut off any soft spots. You may want to remove seeds and pits.
Once your fruit is dry, lay them out on a cookie sheet or roasting pan. Lay your fruit in one layer and do not crowd.
I repeated this process till all my fruit was frozen. Yummy! Now let me show you how we used our frozen fruit.
We love making our own smoothies. Here is one we made today using the berries we froze.
1 C coconut water
1 C frozen berries
1/2 frozen banana
1 Tbs coconut oil (you could also add some honey or maple syrup)
small handful of greens (we used baby spinach)
Dani Spies from Clean and Delicious has an awesome Smoothie Guide printable. I keep it on the side of my fridge for quick reference when making smoothies. Head over to her blog and print yourself one. It will make the smoothie making process so much easier.
Do you ever freeze fruit? Do you prefer another method of preserving?
