So here we go guys, one DIY ironing board cover coming up.
Fabric ( I already had. You could repurpose a sheet)
Elastic (If you like you can reuse the string from your cover)
Quilt batting 45 x 60 ($4.47 at Walmart)
I chose the High Loft batting
Neededle & Thread
To reuse string: If you are reusing your string cut your fabric to the same size as the old cover. Then lay your string right on the edge of your fabric, and zig zag the edge, making sure your thread is in the middle of the stitch. When you put the cover on, just pull the string as tight as it will go, then tie a knot or replace the clamp.
Now, collapse the board and lay it on the floor, or large table. I used my bed. What you will do now is add some elastic across the back of the cover to keep it in place and secure.
Star by tacking elastic on one side of the narrow end of the ironing board. Stretch it across and tack the other end in place. Make sure you put elastic under the folded ironing board legs. Repeat on the wider end of the board.
